Our God wishes to be known and he has abundantly revealed himself in his creation (Psa. 19:1-6). Those who stubbornly say there is no God are foolish (Psa. 14:1). Paul tells us that “what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse” (Rom. 1:19-20). God’s physical creation declares that he is powerful and divine. Sadly, many who know of God refuse to acknowledge him as God and to worship him. When this happens, men do not behave like people made in God’s image. They give themselves up to the pursuit of pleasure and impurity (Rom. 1:21-32). What can be known of Almighty God is also seen in his Son, Jesus (John 14:9-10). Knowledge of God and Jesus must extend to a personal relationship with them. That does not mean salvation on a personalized plan. Knowledge of God is not a mysterious and elusive thing. We must know him through obedience, service, worship, and trust. Knowledge through experience. We know God is good because we walk with him every day. “We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands” (1 John 2:3). Peter admonishes us to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet. 3:18). Paul said he had given up everything for the privilege of knowing Christ (Phil. 3:8). To be a child of God is the greatest privilege we have, but we also have responsibility. May God bless us all as we work with his Spirit to develop the character the Father expects of his children. TC
